Vestige

Vestige

The dining hall was empty with no one to appreciate the ornate craftsmanship that permeated the room – no one, that is, except the souls who were bound within its walls. The blood and bones and flesh have long since been removed, the doors locked, the building and its inhabitants forgotten, despite the wails that traveled with the wind through every nook and cranny of the town. Some tragedies were best left alone, and the townspeople unanimously decided that the slaughter of a dozen or so “witches” was one such tragedy.

This piece was written for the VisDare 23: Ornate based on the image prompt above. The piece has to be less than 150 words.  It was also written for the Trifecta Weekend Writing Challenge #71 – a complete story in only 3 sentences. . . . . I’m going to do the best I can over the next week to read as many entries in both challenges as I possibly can!

  1. Ooooo!!! Gorgeously creepy story afoot!! I salute you for combining writing challenges into one entry – I’m always daunted by such multiple parameters. But you pull it off so flawlessly. Would love to know more about the story behind this gorgeously atmospheric snapshot.

Also, I think this is your first time entering a VisDare? Welcome aboard! Hope to see more from you in the future. 🙂

    • Thank you 🙂

I seriously debated doing both challenges, but they all fit together in my head, so I didn’t want to just pick one 😛

This is my second time doing the VisDare challenge (but it’s been a few months since the last one). I’m impressed, once again, with how quick you are to read and comment!!! 🙂
